Add your memorial for Gene Long

As a long overdue addendum to my previous post, the best thing one can say about Gene is that he was a just a good decent nice man. In these crazy times we live in, there seem to be so few of them around.

A great guy. I met him at Reinhardt and he became one of the gang. Polite, almost to a fault, and never a harsh word for anyone. We also survived Gaston together and I'd see him around, but we were never around each other as much as we were in grade school. And he was almost as quiet and as reserved as me.

I had hoped to see Gene at our 40th. He lived down the street from us in Casa Linda, and our mothers shared carpool duties. He was so so smart and quiet and kinder to this silly girl than I deserved. May he rest in peace.

I was in the band at Gaston with Gene. https://www.restlandfuneralhome.com/obits/gene-allen-long/

The closest I have ever been to being a part of a gang or a clique was in Mrs. Parker's World History class my sophomore year. Myself, Hector Escamilla, Mike Foley, Kathy Chesney and Susanne Osborne were all seated near each other. We even had a token junior named Russell Herring. It was 7th period, a good way to end the day.
